Downtown Atlanta is home to a diverse mix of people: from students to unhoused residents to the daily work crowd. Creating a grocery store for this community meant making something affordable, welcoming, and homely.
Create the identity of a grocery store that provides fresh, accessible food in a food desert in downtown Atlanta, where there is no fresh food available in an 8 mile radius. Craft a brand identity independent of the city yet reminiscent of it, one that can be replicated in other areas facing similar challenges worldwide.

The name Azalea comes from Georgia’s state wildflower, one of the most resilient blooms in the world. Personified, it embodies comfort itself: Azalea is a sister, a girlfriend, a mother, or even just that pretty girl you smile at in the hallway.
At Azalea’s, we want you to leave with a smile on your face; and good, quality food ready to fill your belly.
The Result
The City of Atlanta described the store as part of an ~$12 million funding project across 3 stores. Officials say two more stores are slated to open in 2026, while the Downtown store we designed opened on 8th September, 2025!
